A new-look Bridgnorth 3rd XI, featuring a few senior players resurrecting previously successful careers, pulled off an excellent run chase to take their first win of the season at Chelmarsh, after Trysull had posted a challenging 208-9 off 45 overs.

Asked to bat first, the visitors started strongly to reach 58 without loss after 9 overs, but a mix up then led to a run-out which turned out to be a pivotal moment in the match. Freddie Broad bowled with good pace to take 2-34, but it was spin twins Ben Taylor (1-34) and Elliot Lee (1-27) who swung the momentum of the game back in favour of their side.

An impressive last twenty overs in the field was finished well by Harry Martin (4-17), but the undoubted highlight was a superb, one-handed leaping catch in the deep from stand-in skipper Taylor.

In a day of comebacks, James Childs (36) rolled back the years by playing an excellent anchor role at the top of the order, whilst Broad (31) and Taylor (49) were able to express their natural, attacking stroke-play at the other end.

Trysull put the game back in the balance by taking a few quick wickets, including the impressive Elliot Lee (26) who put in an excellent all-round performance in the field and with the bat. Simon Lee (33*) then played his most important innings for the thirds so far to keep the score ticking towards the target, before final comeback king Steve Parnham finished the game in style with a six in the penultimate over of the game.

The 3rds travel to Whittington on Saturday, where they will hope for a similar all-round team performance.
