Having confirmed promotion to BDPCL Reserve Division One thanks to last week's victory over C&R Hawkins, Bridgnorth's second string travelled to neighbours Worfield looking for one final hurrah to complete an excellent season for themselves.

Invited to bat first by their hosts, captain Alex Yarnley and Andy Carson started out with good composure on a wicket that offered help to the bowlers early on. But once the pair had got themselves in, they set about altering the fact that no second team batsman had reached a century in 2015.

Skipper Yarnley was the first to reach three figures, his maiden ton for the Cricket Meadow outfit after joining last season, with Carson matching him a few overs later. The result was a remarkable 271-run opening partnership, ended when Carson was caught on the boundary for 109.

The enviable position allowed first Ben Barclay and then Andrew Mooney to express themselves as Bridgnorth looked to put the contest beyond reach. Summing up a dominant performance in a nutshell, Joe Barclay ramped the final delivery over fine leg for one last boundary, whilst Yarnley was also left unbeaten on 137.

Knowing that they had to go for it, Worfield's batsmen began the chase confidently and despite an early wicket for Ollie Gill, the runs flowed early on.

Leading strike bowler of 2015, Cam Wallis, then took a final wicket of his own, before Patrick Smallman effected a run out and hit the timbers in a useful five-over spell. By this point, Bridgnorth were firmly in control, as Lewis Hurdley continued his run of late-season form to take 4-15.

Gill (3-54) returned to take a further brace, and despite a spirited late counter-attack from Jack Simpson, the final wicket fell in the 34th over to hand the Cricket Meadow men a well deserved victory.

Yarnley and vice-captain Carson were both quick to praise the efforts the whole team had made during the season, as they successful achieved their target of promotion after a disappointing 2014.

"Last year was tough for us, but it's a great achievement to be able to bounce again straight away. A lot of guys have played a part for the team this season, and all of them have contributed. It's been particularly good to see some talented youngsters come up from thirds this season, including Sam Baugh and Patrick Smallman, who are both only going to get better.

"A special mention must also go to Joe Barclay, who took over as wicketkeeper after Gareth Mumford returned to first team action half way through the season. They were big shoes to fill, but he's done a superb job and made the role his own."
