Bridgnorth II (67-2) beat C&R Hawkins (66) by eight wickets

Alex Thomas

The 2nds completed a demolition job at the weekend, as an excellent all-round performance in the field saw visitors Hawkins dismissed for just 66...

Asking the opposition to bat first, skipper Alex Yarnley's men made a great start as strike bowlers Cam Wallis and Ollie Gill took an early wicket apiece. However, it was first-change seamer Lewis Hurdley that claimed the headlines in the field as he took a season's-best 4-19.

A superb effort in the field was led by young wicketkeeper Joe Barclay, whose glovework has become increasingly impressive and reliable since gaining a regular second team spot this season, whilst almost every catch was snaffled in the field.

Sam Baugh, Ben Leather and Steve Caine all chipped with a wicket apiece, and saw the visitors dismissed in the 28th over.

The run chase began well as openers Yarnley and Glenn Edwards both made good starts, before Yarnley was removed for 13. Andy Carson then increased the tempo to score a quick 21 before being caught at cover attempting another attacking stroke.

Much to his delight, this brought 2015 run-scoring machine Andrew Mooney to the crease, who finished the job with a well-struck boundary alongside the unbeaten Edwards (19 not out).

Reaching the winning target in just the thirteenth over gave Bridgnorth plenty of time to reflect and celebrate clinching promotion to BDPCL Reserve Division One. They will now be able to enjoy next week's final match at Worfield, but with local bragging rights at stake both teams will be wanting to record a final victory this season.
