Bridgnorth II (117) lost to Oswestry (215-8) by 98 runs

Alex Thomas

The seconds lost their top spot in BDPCL Reserve Division Two North as title rivals Oswestry won their vital clash on Saturday...

Putting the hosts in to bat first, Ollie Gill struck early for Bridgnorth before they steadily built towards a good total, as the top order strengthened their position. Later, the bowlers took advantage of a few interesting shots as Cam Wallis, Sam Baugh and Andy Carson took two wickets apiece, with the other falling to Lewis Hurdley.

This enabled the Cricket Meadow men to restrict the hosts to 215-8 off their 50 overs, a total that had been within their range in previous weeks with batsmen in form.

Unfortunately, the much sought-after match-winning partnership failed to materialise as the hosts bowlers took control of the contest. Opener Glenn Edwards top-scored with 25, but Carson was the only other batsman in the top seven who reached double figures. Oswestry made full use of their home advantage to push towards the win, with Adam Lloyd taking 5-35 as the visitors collapsed to 59-6.

Gill fought in vain late on and was eventually left unbeaten on 24, but Bridgnorth were dismissed in the 34th over of their reply for 117, and agonisingly gave up the league lead to their hosts with just three games left in 2015.
