Bridgnorth II (63-0) beat Worfield (62) by ten wickets

Alex Thomas16 Aug 2015 - 22:33

An excellent performance from the seamers raced the 2nd XI to victory against Worfield, in the Shropshire neighbours first meeting in the BDPCL...

The visitors won the toss and chose to bat first on a typically good looking wicket, but the bowlers didn’t allow them any chance to get going. Despite missing this season’s in-form strike bowler Cam Wallis, Toby Hughes and Ollie Gill proved a highly effective opening combination.

Hughes’ experience has shown through this season by regularly keeping things tight early on, but today was clearly his day once he claimed the key wicket of Tom Matthews caught behind. Whilst Gill (2-10) provided able support, Hughes claimed the headlines with 5-14 off 11 overs, helped out by some simply superb glovework from consistently reliable wicketkeeper Gareth Mumford, and two good slip catches from skipper Alex Yarnley.

Change bowlers Lewis Hurdley, Dougie Roberts and Ben Leather all took a wicket apiece, as Worfield’s batsmen stuttered to 62 all out, with only three men reaching double figures.

Bridgnorth wasted little time in chasing down the winning target, with Yarnley (34 not out) and Andy Carson (22 not out) racing their side to victory in just 45 deliveries. The seconds remain 17 points clear at the top of BDPCL Reserve Division Two North, and travel to Whitchurch this weekend.
