Bridgnorth 2nds were denied victory at Cricket Meadow despite a good performance with bat and ball. By gaining the lion’s share of the points, they maintained their position at the top of the table.

Choosing to bat first, openers Alex Yarnley (47) and Andy Carson (49) set a good platform with an 80-run opening stand, setting up the innings for a strong middle-order. Ben Barclay (22) and Gareth Mumford (13) both made starts, but it was Matt Martin (70 not out) who made the telling contribution.

The hard-hitting Sam Morgan (28) joined him at the potentially tricky position of 160-5, and later Cam Wallis (19 not out) as the Cricket Meadow men closed strongly on 264-7 off 50 overs.

In reply, Bridgnorth’s bowlers kept things tight but Streetly seemed steadfast in their challenge to not be dismissed. Seamers Cam Wallis (1-38) and Doug Roberts (1-19) both found a little success, but legspinner Morgan almost won the game for his side with 6-34.

However, the visitor’s 9th wicket stand remained unbeaten as they finished on 129-8. Now with a 39 point lead, next week sees Bridgnorth host Oswestry, who lie second in BDPCL Reserve Division Two.
