Choosing to bat first on an excellent wicket, Bridgnorth’s openers got off to a flyer before Andy Carson was adjudged out lbw. Captain Alex Yarnley (50) was then joined by Ben Barclay in the middle, and the pair continued to add runs with relative ease, before Barclay was dismissed to a smart legside catch by Wombourne ‘keeper Joel Craner for 33.

Whilst many made starts and the runs continued to flow, no one was able to kick and make a really big score, although Sam Morgan once again provided further impetus with some mighty blows, making his first half century for Bridgnorth.

The Cricket Meadow men finished on a very competitive 260 for 7 off 50 overs, but work still needed to be done with the ball on a pitch that was playing very well.

Unfortunately a loose start from the Bridgnorth bowlers enabled Wombourne to start equally strongly, putting on 58 runs in the first 10 overs, before the introduction of Simon Pitt and Lewis Hurdley brought some much needed control to the run rate.

Hurdley (1-25) made the first breakthrough following a few missed chances, with Pitt (1-30) taking the second. As the overs passed, the job became more difficult for the visitors as the required rate increased, and Ollie Gill (3-40) and Yarnley (2-37) chipped away with the ball.

Towards the end a number of wickets tumbled as the batting side tried in vain to resurrect their chances, but Bridgnorth eventually came out on top by 61 runs.

Skipper Yarnley later noted, “We were made to work hard for that win, and there are a few areas we can still improve on. It’s great to continue our 100% start but in future matches we may be made to pay for our mistakes.”
