Bridgnorth II (117-8) lost to Halesowen (103-2) by 8 wickets – D/L method

Alex Thomas

Bridgnorth’s second string were undone by an accurate Halesowen bowling attack on a grey and dreary day at Cricket Meadow...

Asked to bat first, the hosts’ lack of batting depth was cruelly exposed as they fell to 16-3 early on. Still missing a number of experienced players, it was left to the determined Cam Wallis (36) and Harry Broad (16) to fight hard and attempt to dig their side out of a hole with a dogged partnership of 48.

However, the dismissal of Wallis triggered a second collapse of four wickets for 14 runs, before Ben Leather (18*) and Ryan Wheldon inched their side towards a final total of 117-8.

Persistent drizzle mixed with short, sharp showers caused time and overs to be lost mid-way through the afternoon, meaning Halesowen would need to chase just 99 runs for the win.

Unfortunately, a couple of missed chances extinguished any remaining hopes of a fightback, and although Doug Roberts and Wheldon both picked up a consolation wicket apiece, the visitors powered their way past the winning line in the 18th over.

Bridgnorth 2nds next challenge is a trip to Wellington on Saturday.
