On a rain affected day, Bridgnorth's top order had their best game of the season so far as they fought hard to save a losing draw...

With the visitors winning the toss and choosing to bat first, their talented opening batsmen got their side off to a flyer, rapidly bringing up a century opening stand. James Ralph created the initial breakthrough at 106, before fellow legspinner Sam Whitney combined to stem the flow of the runs as he took two wickets in two balls.

Once again, Charlie Morris produced another excellent spell in the middle overs to take 3 quick wickets, as Bromsgrove collapsed from 145-1 to 183-5. Rain interruptions then also played their part in the momentum coming out of the visitors' batting effort, and after looking like scoring over 300, Bromsgrove declared their innings closed on 247-8 after 51 overs.

The weather delays meant Bridgnorth were set 187 runs to get in 34 overs to claim the winning draw points, and approached the chase with confidence after an excellent performance in the midweek T20 contest at Worfield. Despite the early loss of Ian Gregory, Dave Exall and Ralph both got in and looked good, but both were also dismissed when well set.

Simon Gregory played his best innings of the year to top-score with a better-than-run-a-ball 73, and received good support from Morris for a 71-run fourth-wicket stand. However, a few poor shots and good bowling saw the chance to claim the lion's share of the point diminish, as Bridgnorth finished five agonising runs short of the winning draw target on 182-8.

Whilst happy with his side's improvement with the bat, captain Sam Whitney was left disappointed as his team weren't able to gain a positive result.

"Bromsgrove are one of the best teams in the league, and it would have been great to get a better result against them. It's great to see our batters finding their form, and we fielded well too. No sides in this tough league are blowing us away, and we've got some more tough games coming up, but if we keep improving I'm confident we can win more games."
