Upon arrival at the ground, the previous night's heavy rain had left a very wet square, and time was taken out of the game to enable it to dry out, resulting in a 50 overs-a-side contest.
The toss would now be crucial, and captain James Ralph called correctly and invited the hosts to bat first. A hostile opening spell from Dale Quiney (2-29) got his side off to a good start as he claimed two early wickets, before the economical Tom Weston (1-20) took the third.
When Dave Exall (1-13) dismissed the dangerous overseas player Audy Alexander for 16, a batting collapse ensued as Ralph spun his way through the lower order to take 5-17. With Ian Gregory also producing a superb direct-hit run-out, Stourbridge were dismissed for 136 in the 47th over.
Chasing a relatively small target, Bridgnorth lost Gregory early but Ralph and Ryan Lockley pressed on as the Shropshire pair looked to rush their side to the win.
However, Lockley's run-out for 27 signalled the start of the jitters for the Cricket Meadow men, especially after Ralph was removed for 45, and regular wickets followed to leave them stuttering on 106-6.
The potentially precarious position then saw wicketkeeper-batsman Gareth Mumford counter-attack with a quick-fire 22, which all but saw the visitors home. When he fell just short of the win, it was left to Dougie Roberts to hit the winning boundary on just his third first team appearance.
This Saturday sees the 1sts return to Cricket Meadow to take on Karl and Dale Quiney's former club, Wombourne.
