After being asked to bat first by skipper James Ralph, the visitors made a solid start to reach 28 without loss, before Tom Weston (1-16) made the initial breakthrough. A change of ends for Quiney and the introduction of legspinner Sam Whitney then signalled the start of the collapse.
Whitney (2-27) kept things tight whilst Quiney ripped through the top order to take his first five-wicket haul for Bridgnorth in a superb 15-over spell in warm, sweaty conditions. After eight wickets fell for just 35 runs, Ralph and Dave Exall finished the job with a late wicket apiece to end the Old Lizzies’ innings in just the 38th over.
The hosts lost openers Karl Quiney and Ralph fairly early on, but the result never really looked in doubt, especially when this year’s form horses Ryan Lockley (33 not out) and Simon Gregory (45) combined for a spritely 60-run partnership.
The pair looked like finishing the job in style, but Gregory was given out in a close run-out call just 11 runs short of the target, and Exall was dismissed next ball, leaving Lockley and Weston to clinch victory in the 22nd over.
