Bridgnorth continued their excellent start to the season with another strong performance at Wombourne on Saturday...

The hosts chose to bat first and made a solid start to reach 111-1, although Bridgnorth’s bowlers remained disciplined. The change bowlers produced the crucial period in the game with Dave Exall (2-31) and skipper James Ralph (1-38) taking some important wickets.

Ian Gregory then bowled a good spell, and got the key wicket of Hudson for 67 who was looking well set, followed by overseas player Diwan. Dale Quiney (2-39) returned to bowl well at the death in combination with Gregory (4-59), but some lusty blows late on from Wombourne’s lower order got them up to 217-9 from 50 overs.

Confidence is high in the Cricket Meadow camp, and showed as Bridgnorth began their run chase with relative ease, as Karl Quiney (40) and skipper Ralph sharing an excellent opening stand of 93 in quick time.

The fall of Quiney brought Tom Whitney to the crease, who continued to keep the runs flowing with a well made 46. As he continued to display his natural attacking flair, Ralph fell for a fine 75 whilst trying to finish the game in style.

Simon Gregory (15*) and Exall (37*) then raced their side over the finish line in the 41st over to maintain Bridgnorth’s fantastic start to the season. They now sit joint top of BDPCL Division Two alongside Penkridge, and will host early strugglers Eastnor on Saturday.
