The 1sts secured a comfortable second win thanks to a good bowling display, followed by a clinical run-chase...

On a day when the weather could easily have been the winner, the umpires must be applauded for allowing the game to reach its natural conclusion, and Bridgnorth gratefully took the chance with both hands.

The visitors chose to bat first and made a solid start to reach forty without loss after ten overs, before the momentum of the game changed dramatically. After some loose deliveries early on, opening bowlers Dale Quiney and Toby Hughes (2-31) struck three times in quick succession.

Sam Whitney (2-26) then started in the best way possible by hitting the off stump with his first ball, and then claimed an lbw just three balls later. A second quick burst from Quiney (3-31), along with an unfortunate run-out, left the visitors reeling at 70-8 in the 23rd over.

Brewood’s lower order then set about effecting a recovery, posting a stand of eighty runs for the ninth wicket as the Cricket Meadow men struggled to finish the job in the field. Credit must also be given to Lunn (47) and Smith (43) who showed that runs could be scored with relative ease, and showed greater application than a few of their fellow players.

With a potentially challenging score looking possible, Dave Exall (2-23) returned to finally claim the last two wickets in successive overs, as Bridgnorth were set 162 runs to win.

The damp weather continued to present a possible threat to the game, and with this in mind openers Karl Quiney and skipper James Ralph began their pursuit in positive fashion. After driving the first ball of the innings through the covers for four, Quiney looked in assured and dominant touch, with Ralph finding his rhythm and timing as his innings progressed.

As both men began to dominate, the game was quickly running away from the visitors, and the stumping of Ralph for 57 was to prove the only highlight for them in the field. At 90-1 Quiney and Lockley combined to ensure there would be no jitters for the side who boast enviable batting resources this year.

The run chase was successfully completed in 28th over, as Bridgnorth scored their second consecutive win, with the stylish Quiney finishing unbeaten on 65, and Lockley with 34.

Whilst Bridgnorth will face tougher challenges this season, the team will be delighted to have secured maximum points, and are now one of only three sides to have won both games so far in 2015.
