Wicket-taking wizards Weaver and Whitney whizz Bridgnorth to wonderful win!

Bridgnorth pulled off a comprehensive victory on a glorious summer’s day at Fordhouses on Saturday, where stalwart wicket-takers Tom Weaver and Sam Whitney were the architects of a sensational batting collapse.

The hosts chose to bat first upon winning the toss, and looked well set on 69-1 at the drinks break before the carnage began. Weaver (5-45) and Whitney (3-7) then showed what the Cricket Meadow men had missed in the field last weekend.

An excellent run-out from Weaver triggered a remarkable collapse of six wickets for just one run, including three wickets in one over from Weaver. Whitney continued his excellent form this year with eight immaculate overs, ably supporting his canny comrade after their weekend in Ibiza, and along with a further run-out from fielding supremo Matt Martin, the hosts found themselves bundled out for just 94.

Bridgnorth were keen to maintain their momentum in the game in the run-chase, and despite the loss of the in-form Ryan Lockley for 13, James Ralph (39*) played another fluent innings at the top of the order. Dave Exall produced the final coup de grace, however, pummelling 41 runs from just 16 balls to race his side to victory in the 14th over.

Now sitting in fifth position in BDPCL Division Three, the 1st XI return to Cricket Meadow on Saturday where they host Milford Hall.
