Bridgnorth produced a demolition job at Kings Heath on Saturday to dismiss their hosts for just 61, before knocking off the target in the 16th over without losing a wicket.
Despite winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the south Birmingham outfit’s innings never got going as Bridgnorth’s bowlers hunted as a pack. Tom Weaver (3-28) and Jono Whitney (3-17) cut through the top-order, thanks in part to some smart work from Gareth Mumford behind the stumps.
A seventh-wicket partnership of 21 proved to be the only real hiatus to the Cricket Meadow men’s incisive progress, before Sam Whitney (2-14) and Ben Leather (2-2) finished off the job inside 35 overs.
In reply, the victory chase was never in doubt as openers Andy Carson (37*) and Harry Martin (19*) completed a comfortable 10-wicket victory with ease.
Captain Mark MacPherson-Lees was delighted with his team’s efforts. “We really did play very well today. The bowlers bowled well but the fielding was outstanding, led well by a great display from Gareth behind the stumps. We need to make sure that we keep up this form because there will be tougher matches to come.”
