An aggressive century from Jono Whitney built the base for a convincing victory away to Birmingham & District Premier Cricket League Division Three strugglers Worcester Nomads on Saturday.
Being asked to bat first by the hosts, Bridgnorth made a solid start by reaching 66-1 in the 15th over, with opener Andy Carson making 36. A middle order wobble brought the hosts back into the game at 148-6, whereupon Whitney was joined by his captain Mark MacPherson-Lees (33*) for what would become a crucial unbeaten partnership of 111, with him knocking the ball into gaps whilst the in-form Shropshire batsman moved swiftly through the gears to reach 127 not out off just 110 deliveries.
A final total of 259-6 appeared to be a strong total, and opening bowler Tom Weaver (1-23) bowled a typically testing spell to further assert the Bridgnorth’s dominance.
Spin twins Sam Whitney (2-32) and James Ralph (3-12) maintained the stranglehold on the hosts middle-order, before MacPherson-Lees (2-16) and Tom Weston (2-14) finished off the job to complete a convincing 120 run victory.
Bridgnorth return to Cricket Meadow next week, hoping for another strong performance against league high-flyers Tamworth.
