Bridgnorth (16-1) vs Worfield (206-6) - Match Abandoned
Despite a spirited comeback effort in the field from Bridgnorth, the weather ultimately curtailed matters for both sides at Davenport Park on Saturday, denying the Cricket Meadow men what would have been a highly intriguing run chase.
Earlier, after electing to field first once again, seamers Ian Gregory and Jack Riley-Craig had made an excellent start with the new ball as Worfield were limited to 20-1 off their opening spells. However, the hosts then capitalised on some wayward bowling and a shorter leg-side boundary to pile on the runs in the middle overs.
At 160-2, a dominant first innings total looked on the cards, but overseas legspinner Jed Schwarzbach’s second spell saw the home side eventually stutter to 206-6 off their 40 overs, the Australian finishing with 4-36 off his eight overs.
By this point, the wet weather had started having an effect, with a rain-break already causing a delay to the final 13 balls of Worfield’s innings. Then, at 16-1 in the sixth over, Bridgnorth’s run chase was put on hold as the umpires deemed the conditions unsafe for play, and ultimately both captains agreed that a result would not be possible on the day.
Bridgnorth II (136) lost to Frankwell (210-7) by 74 runs
The second team were once again left rueing missed chances in the field as they were undone by Frankwell at Cricket Meadow.
A solid all-round effort with the ball was led by the returning Alex Yarnley, who finished with figures of 2-30 off his eight overs, well supported by Alfie Proctor, Neil Johnson and Guy Black with a wicket apiece. Unfortunately, some dropped catches meant Frankwell’s final total of 210 off 40 overs would prove too high an ask for Bridgnorth’s batting line-up.
Slipping to 28-3 early on, Rich Ealey (28) stood firm at the top of the order, whilst cameos from Dileep Sagar (18), Johnson (16) and Black (21) kept the runs ticking over, but the visitors were always in control as the weather conditions gradually made scoring more challenging. Despite a spirited late effort from Proctor (14), the Cricket Meadow men fell well short, dismissed for 136 in the final over.
Bridgnorth III (65-4) beat Frankton (64) by six wickets
The third team produced an excellent display in the field to secure their second win on the bounce, as the bowlers made the most of some helpful conditions following the recent showers.
After choosing to bat first, visitors Frankton were soon reeling as Manoj Dodiya (3-18) produced an excellent new-ball spell to run through the top order. Teenage spinner Izzy Crann, in her first game in a Bridgnorth shirt this summer following a sublime 2025 season, then once again showed her class to pick up 4-19 in a wily spell that proved too much for Frankton’s middle order. A double strike in just nine deliveries from Alfie Proctor finished the job in the 27th over.
The game wasn’t finished yet however, with conditions still providing assistance to the bowlers as Bridgnorth didn’t find run-scoring straightforward in the chase. A typically determined effort from Rich Ealey (29) at the top of the order ultimately proved crucial, and despite slipping to 32-3, some late hitting from Dileep Sagar (13 not out) clinched the win in eighteen overs.
