Despite being outpowered with the bat by visitors Quatt on Saturday, Bridgnorth fought valiantly to claim eight points as they look to turn their fortunes around in the second half of the season.

Now returning to red ball cricket for the remainder of the summer, the Cricket Meadow men gave a hint to what their mentality will be like in the ‘Win-Draw-Lose’ format, as stand-in captain Peter Scott and Gareth Mumford added 35 crucial runs in the final overs of the game to move their team above the losing draw target.

Earlier, Quatt had won the toss and elected to bat first, and runs flowed once again under sunny skies. Left-arm spinner Sam Baugh was the only bowler able to find consistent control, and finally broke a 146-run opening partnership in the 27th over. Ian Gregory later effected an excellent direct-hit run-out to remove centurion Jason Hibbert for the second wicket, before Baugh returned for a late spell and was ultimately rewarded with superb figures of 4-45 off his fifteen overs. In between, however, the boundary was found regularly as the visitors inched past the 300 mark.

In response, Gregory and Arjun Cherukuri (42) made a solid start in the run chase, putting on 64 runs at the top of the order before Quatt broke through. At 91-1 in the twentieth over, a good foundation appeared to have been built, before another topple of wickets saw Bridgnorth slip to 122-6 just nine overs later.

Chris Green and Adam Binfield then dug in to arrest the slide, putting on 63 runs for the seventh wicket, before both were removed in consecutive overs. But Scott and Mumford called on their experience to hit some late boundaries and scrap all the way.

Bridgnorth II (142) beat Priorslee (111) by 31 runs

A gritty unbeaten 61 from Alex Yarnley and a superb five wicket haul from Ethan Osborne-Welch were the stand-out efforts as the second team overcame Priorslee on Saturday.

Electing to bat first on a tricky wicket, Yarnley proved the highest scorer by a distance whilst the home side chipped away at the other end. Osborne-Welch then led the way in response with a three-wicket new-ball burst, before Guy Black (2-10), Michael O’Sullivan (2-12) and Neil Johnson (1-3) worked their way through the middle order. The talented left-arm swing bowler then returned to take the final two wickets, finishing with excellent figures of 5-17 as the hosts were bowled out in the 26th over.

Bridgnorth III (203-9) beat Allscott Heath (72) by 131 runs

The third team overcame a poor start with the bat on Sunday to ultimately run out convincing victors over Allscott, maintaining pressure on league leaders St Georges.

After the visitors chose to bowl first, Bridgnorth slumped to 88-7 despite an eye-catching 22 from Ollie Shinebaum, before a well-measured and determined century partnership between Shashi Cherukuri (62) and Ethan Osborne-Welch (34 not out) pulled their side up to what would prove a match-winning total.

Osborne-Welch and skipper Alex Thomas then both struck twice with their new-ball efforts, whilst Shinebaum pulled off an excellent direct-hit run-out as Allscott found themselves five wickets down early on.

Some big hitting from the middle-order threatened to get the visitors back in the game, but the introduction of Isaac Lunn proved the key moment. After taking a hat-trick for the midweek team just days earlier, Lunn ran through the lower order, including the key breakthrough of hard-hitting Isaac Harper for 40, taking four wickets for just 1 run in thirteen balls.
