1st XI v Old Elizabethans (Away) - Won by 6 wickets
Bridgnorth travelled to north Worcester outfit Old Elizabethans and fielded first on losing the toss.
They were made to toil in the sunshine early on as the home side eased to 80 without loss before Dave Exall made the breakthrough trapping Charlie Garrett leg before.
The introduction of spin then proved decisive as Sam Whitney and Mark Macpherson-Lees whittled away the middle and late order to see the hosts close on 234-9.
Bridgnorth’s reply looked in some peril at 23-2 with Exall and Matt Martin both back in the shack but a watchful Ryan Lockley and Jono Whitney began a rescue mission that realised a 103 run partnership.
Whitney fell on 71 from 54 balls as he continued his powerful return to form with the bat crashing 14 boundaries whilst Lockley played an anchor role allowing shot players MacPherson-Lees and Jack Edwards to press for victory.
Bear Inn Man of the Match Lockley did punish the bad ball though and was unbeaten on 96 from 124 balls with 17 boundaries as the Cricket Meadow men rushed past the target with ten overs to spare and climb to fourth in what is proving to be a tight Division Two.
“It goes some way to getting over the disappointment of last week’s performance”, skipper MacPherson-Lees said after the game. “Ryan batted really well and deserved a ton and Jono showed his class. It’s a strange ground to field on but that is part of our game we can improve on.
"Results are showing that this will be a close league this year and a team that puts a run together ought to be in the shake up at the end”, he added.
2nd XI v Old Elizabethans (Home) - Won by 5 wickets
Bridgnorth seconds entertained an Old Elizabethans side languishing near the basement of Reserve Division 1and invited them to bat first at Cricket Meadow and soon had success reducing the visitors to 75-6.
A spirited fight back then followed as Bridgnorth were perhaps guilty of easing off and OE’s closed on 172-9. Andy Leather and Steve Caine continue to roll back the years with the ball and there was a wicket apiece for Tom Baugh and Ed Lewis.
Chasing a modest total Bridgnorth got the ideal start as Ed Mullard and Andrew Carson played positively at the top of the order and momentum was maintained by Greg Lewis, Rob Hughes and Jimmy Shaw.
Despite losing wickets needlessly the Cricket Meadow men eased home by five wickets with ten overs to spare. The result puts them into third spot as next week’s halfway fixture arrives.
3rd XI v Condover (Home) - Won by 87 runs
Bridgnorth 3rd XI cemented their second place in Shropshire League Division 5 with a nail biting victory over Condover in a high scoring game that gives credit to a superb Chelmarsh wicket.
Batting first Bridgnorth’s powerful batting line-up fired as a unit with runs for Ollie Gill, Elliot Pottinger, Ian Gough, Harry Martin and Cam Wallis as they racked up an impressive 312-4 from their 45 overs.
Condover chased hard throughout and the host’s bowling attack looked frail but teenage spin twins Jake Harvey and Harry Martin stuck to their task. The final reward came with only three balls left in the reply as skipper Pete Oliver clung on to the catch to break the last pairs resolve for 225 and keep his team on the tails of leaders Newport.
