1st XI v Old Hill (Away) - Won by 6 wickets
Bridgnorth made the trip to Birmingham League Division One outfit Old Hill on Saturday and came away with a fine six-wicket win.
Old Hill won the toss and chose to bat first, a decision that seemed vindicated as they raced to 111 without loss, with both openers scoring fluent half centuries.
The second half of the innings belonged to Bridgnorth, as Cam Wallis, making his 1st team debut, bowled an excellent spell to remove both openers, finishing with 2-25. Skipper Mark MacPherson-Lees provided the other half of the fightback with 2-22, whilst Jono Whitney took two wickets in the penultimate over of the innings to finish with 2-24. Old Hill eventually finished on 186-8 off their 45 overs.
Bridgnorth's innings started much the same way, with a century opening stand and half centuries for Whitney (64) and Ryan Lockley (56). Just like the first innings, however, scoring appeared more difficult once pace had been taken off the ball, as both openers were removed and the middle order had to work harder for their runs.
Despite this, Bridgnorth kept things steady as Alex Whitby (17*) and Chris McMillan (16) kept the scoreboard ticking over. A late wicket made things interesting, but Ian Gough, another 1st team debutant, finished things off in style with a six off the final ball of the match.
The Cricket Meadow men finished on 192-4, winning by six wickets, and look forward to next week's encounter against Wednesbury.
2nd XI v Old Hill (Home) - Lost by 6 wickets
Bridgnorth 2nd XI got their 2011 campaign underway with a 6 wicket defeat in a warm up match at home to Old Hill Seconds.
Batting first Bridgnorth stuttered early on losing a few key wickets but the ship was steadied by opener Glenn Edwards (51) and the highly talented youngster Jimmy Shaw (53).
A middle order collapse saw the hosts slump to 110-7 but all-rounder Liam Brown (25) together with Shaw added 53 for the 8th wicket to take the final score to a more respectable 163-9 in 45 overs.
In reply Old Hill were always up with the required run rate and aided by some rusty fielding the home side could never really get on top. The introduction of leg-spinner Shaw (3-43) gave the hosts some hope but Old Hill reached their target scoring 165-4 with 9 balls remaining.
