Result - Won by 5 wickets

The 1st XI responded to skipper Mark MacPherson-Lees comments by easing to a five-wicket victory in the Shropshire derby at home to St Georges, for their first Birminham League Second Division victory of the season. The skipper had urged the batsmen to value their wickets more after they had crashed to defeat the previous week.

The visitors won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first and got away to a solid start aided by some uncharacteristically poor fielding before Jono Whitney and brother Sam got amongst the wickets to reign in the run rate. The Dragons closed on 212-8 from their 55 overs.

In reply changes to the batting order paid dividends as Jono Whitney continued his county form with a well-crafted 67 in an opening stand of 97 with Ryan Lockley. Jack Edwards continued the run chase with Dave Exall and a welcome return to form for Matt Martin as the hosts eased to victory with three overs to spare.

"The changes in the batting order worked well for us and everyone batted to instruction", a happy MacPherson-Lees said after the game. "We bowled well in spells but our fielding was our weakness today. If we get all aspects right we will give someone a stuffing", he added.

Bridgnorth 2nd XI had a similarly straightforward result against the same opposition. Batting first, St Georges struggled against Andy Leather before some poor fielding allowed them to post 183-9. Nick Gray, Steve Caine and Liam Brown shared the other wickets.

In reply, Bridgnorth played positively to stay well ahead of the required rate with Gray top-scoring and useful contributions from Tom Weston and Dan Taylor before a mini collapse. But Eddie Mullard and Brown saw their side home without further alarm to move into the top half of the table.
