Result - Won by 136 runs
Club President Chris Steward declared himself delighted with the performance of the 1st XI to help celebrate President's Day at Cricket Meadow on Saturday.
The visitors won the toss and put their hosts in to bat, and a patient opening stand between Dave Exall and Ryan Lockley weathered the seaming ball as they put on 56 for the first wicket. Lockley then continued his watchful approach with AJ Smith as the pair added 90 for the second wicket. This allowed Jack Edwards to play his shots, making a quick unbeaten 31 and push the total to 252-7 from their 55 overs.
In reply Whitchurch made a steady start with openers Hasnain (40) and Ince (17) putting on 39 in good time for the first wicket, and at 85-3 looked set to make a fist of the chase. However, the Whitney brothers had other ideas as Jono and Sam ripped through the batting order as the visitors succumbed to 116 all out in 40 overs. This gave Bridgnorth maximum points and moved them closer to safety in mid-table.

Result - Winning Draw
Bridgnorth 2nd XI made the short trip to Penn for a tasty top-of-the-table clash where they failed to produce their best.
Batting first, Penn made 212-7 from their 50 overs as a combination of shoddy fielding and, on recent form, below par bowling allowed Slimm (53) and Samra (65) enough lives to keep a cattery running for years. First team regular Nick Hudson then whacked a quickfire 33 to ice the cake for the hosts. Bridgnorth's opening attack of Tom Baugh and Greg Lewis deserved better than their figures suggest and Liam Brown also suffered from his team mates' willingness to spill the ball.
A rain break during the first innings cut the overs in Bridgnorth's reply to 45, and they made a positive start as Andrew Carson and Glenn Edwards kept up with the run-rate before both became victims to spinner Ball (4-55), and with spin at both ends on the slow wicket progress became stilted.
Tom Weston again showed promise and Matt Martin threatened, but the required run-rate kept increasing as Bridgnorth settled for the draw on 166-6. The points spread sees Penn climb above their visitors into second place in a keenly contested division. Leaders Wombourne visit this Saturday and Bridgnorth must raise their game to avoid falling out of contention for a promotion spot.
