Bridgnorth Cricket Club made a winning start to the new season with all three teams coming out on top.

The 1st XI visited Newport for a friendly and bowled out their Birmingham League Third Division rivals for just 62, with Tom Weaver taking the bowling honours with 3-8 off nine overs.

Bridgnorth - who look forward to their first home league match against Studley next week - fielded and bowled well and totalled 66-4 with Andy Carson top scoring with 27.

The 2nd XI entertained the Newport second string in a friendly in readiness for their league opener at Kidderminster. Newport were restricted to 147-7 with Steve Caine leading the way with 3-10 and Ed Lewis, Keiron Osborne and Dave Bannister also bowling well. In reply Bridgnorth made 149-9 with captain Ed Mullard top scoring with 57 not out.

The 3rd XI opened their league programme against Bomere Heath who batted first and totalled 125 all out, with Glyn McKenna taking 3-10, the other wickets being shared. Andy Mooney, aged 16, made Bridgnorth's top score with an unbeaten 51 not out in his side's total of 127-6.
