1st XI v Aston Unity - Saturday 4th July (BDPCL Div 3)

Bridgnorth CC 1st XI v Aston Unity (Home)

Bridgnorth 1st XI (145-4) beat Aston Unity (144) by 6 wickets

Batting: D. Exall 47, A. Carson 22, J. Whitney 29*.
Bowling: J. Whitney 5-28, E. Lewis 3-20.

Jono Whitney's efforts of 5-28 off 17 unchanged overs earned him the HQ Sports Bar Man of the Match Award but youngster Ed Lewis shone on his debut for the Saturday 1st XI , claiming 3-20.

Unity, who batted first and were wobbling at one stage on 84-7, fashioned a recovery of sorts to reach 144 all out. The home side's enthusiastic fielding display was again a feature.

The loss of Tom Whitney in the first over and the threat of rain caused a few early nerves, but in-form Dave Exall, who had scored an unbeaten 98 for Herefordshire the previous weekend, and Andrew Carson figured in a stand of 80 for the second wicket, before both fell in quick succession.

Matt Martin came and went in breezy fashion before Jono Whitney and skipper Mark MacPherson-Lees eased their side home to maximum points. The captain declared himself pleased with the victory. "Low targets are often ones that catch teams out and we had our moments in pursuit of a small chase but we are happy to be top at halfway" he said.

"It was good to see Jono hitting his lines as well but its still very much about the team winning games and not individuals".

2nd XI v Halesowen - Saturday 4th July (BDPCL Res Div 1)

Bridgnorth CC 2nd XI v Halesowen (Away)

Bridgnorth 2nd XI (212-7) lost to Halesowen (213-3) by 7 wickets

Batting: A. Unitt 81, A. Whitby 44.
Bowling: L. Brown 1-.

Bridgnorth 2nd XI remain at the foot of the table following a seven-wicket defeat at fellow strugglers Halesowen on Saturday.

In a much improved batting display Bridgnorth, on being asked to bat first, recovered from the loss of both openers cheaply to rally to 212-7. Andy Unitt continued his battle to regain form with a top score of 81 and Al Whitby showed promise before both fell victim to run outs.

Halesowen lost opener Quami to Liam Brown early in their reply before a counter attacking century on debut from Marton Harvey (102), who could have gone at any time, proved the ideal foil to the veteran Richard Cox (47*) as the home side coasted to victory with 9 overs to spare.

3rd XI v Hales - Saturday 4th July (SCL Div 5)

Bridgnorth CC 3rd XI v Hales (Away)

Bridgnorth 3rd XI (219-7) beat Hales (218) by 3 wickets

Batting: K. Osborne 112, H. Davies 25, F. Broad 22, P. Oliver 16.
Bowling: T. Baugh 2-24, A. Mooney 2-20.

Bridgnorth 3rd XI visited Hales and invited the home side to take first use of the Valley View track.

Gary Boyles provided the highlight of their innings, top scoring with 88, after two early breakthroughs by Tom Baugh, and added 125 with Marshall (32) before a mini collapse as Andrew Mooney grabbed his wickets in quick succession. Heggarty and Broomes set the visitors a challenging 219 for victory.

The Hales reply was based on a fine century by young allrounder Kieran Osborne, who batted maturely as early wickets fell at the other end. Henry Davies, Freddie Broad and skipper Pete Oliver gave some middle order substance as they edged to victory with three wickets and two overs to spare.
