Bridgnorth CC 3rd XI v Overton-on-Dee (Home)
Bridgnorth 3rd XI (113-4) beat Overton (112) by 6 wickets
Batting: J. Jones 70*, A. Mooney 19.
Bowling: J. Jones 2-13, P. Oliver 2-22, E. Mullard 2-2.
Bridgnorth 3rd XI completed their 2008 League program with a convincing 6-wicket victory away at Overton-on-Dee.
Batting first, the Welshmen struggled to get going against a disciplined Bridgnorth attack coupled with a slow-running outfield, and a final total of 112 all out in 40 overs looked to be below par. The wickets were shared around for the visitors, with left-arm pace ace Josh Jones (2-13) leading the way. He was well supported by the experienced tandem of Pete Oliver (2-22) and Eddie Mullard, who mopped up the tail with 2-2.
The Bridgnorth reply got off to a disastrous start as the top order were blown away, leaving them reeling on 12-3. A partnership between the promising Andy Mooney (19) and allrounder Josh Jones started to repair the damage, as they added 67 for the 4th wicket to swing the game back Bridgnorth's way. The normally explosive Jones showed a new side to his ever improving game as he maturely stroked the ball around for a superb 70 not out, leading the men from Cricket Meadow past the finishing line on 113-4 with just under 10 overs remaining.
This result means that, in another heavily curtailed season due to the appalling summer weather, Bridgnorth 3rd XI consolidated their position in Shropshire Cricket League Division Five, finishing comfortably mid-table.
