Bridgnorth 1st XI's tussle away at old adversaries Fordhouses on Saturday was another victim of the disappointing British summer of 2008.

Bridgnorth won the toss and inserted the home side and were instantly rewarded, with allrounder AJ Smith (3-11) reducing Fordhouses to 15-3. A revival of sorts was mounted, but Bridgnorth were in the driving seat with the hosts only managing 169-9 off their 55 overs. For Bridgnorth, Andy Leather took 3-50 and captain Mark MacPherson-Lees chipped in with 3-47.

The Cricket Meadow men's reply had reached 29-1 off 11 overs before the heavens opened, and the game was abandoned due to heavy rain.

Bridgnorth face a massive Bank Holiday Weekend as they first travel on high-flying Wombourne on Saturday, before entertaining Coleshill on Monday in their tense battle to remain in the Birmingham League.

Bridgnorth 2nd XI's home fixture against lowly Barnt Green also fell foul of the weather.

Bridgnorth lost the toss and were asked to bat first in conditions that favoured the seam bowlers, and the home side were reduced to 25-2 early on. Andy Carson, in his first game for 5 weeks, showed no signs of ring rust as he led Bridgnorth out of trouble with a classy 52. The mainstay of the innings, once again, was the unstoppable Matt Martin, who followed his ton from a fortnight ago with another high quality knock, this time posting a glorious unbeaten 115. These two added 124 for the third wicket, putting the hosts well in control of the game before heavy rain brought about a premature end to proceedings with Bridgnorth on 223-4 off 47 overs.

3rd XI v Allscott - Saturday 16th August (SCL Div 5)

Bridgnorth 3rd XI gamely battled through the elements on Saturday as the registered a winning draw away at Allscott.

Bridgnorth batted first and got off to a solid start with openers Stuart Farquhar (24) and Tom Weston (62) putting on 66 for the first wicket. Youngster Weston, who is enjoying a rich vein of form, was then joined by Conor Goodwin-Tindall, and these two batted supremely in a stand of 128 for the second wicket. The highly talented Goodwin-Tindall showed all his potential as he went on to record his maiden century, making a brilliant 120* in making Bridgnorth make 225-2 off their 40 overs.

Allscott were in no mood to roll over and they made a spirited effort in the run chase, falling just short of their target, ending on 207-4. The Bridgnorth attack worked hard in the tricky, wet conditions, with wickets for Dan Taylor (1-35), Will Buxton (1-20) and Goodwin-Tindall, who completed an unforgettable day by taking 2-27.
