1st XI v Kington - Saturday 9th August (BPDCL Div 3)

Bridgnorth CC 1st XI v Kington (Home)

Bridgnorth 1st XI (136-9), Kington (DNB) - Match Abandoned

Batting: I. Gregory 42, P. Dogra 41, M. MacPherson-Lees 16.
Bowling:

Bridgnorth 1st XI's home game against Kington was called off at the tea interval due to heavy rain, with the match being abandoned.

In a game initially reduced to 34 overs per side due to rain, Bridgnorth lost the toss and were promptly inserted on a green, damp wicket. The top order found the going tough in the face of some disciplined Kington bowling, but they battled hard and at 91-2 were handily placed although there were only a few overs left. A late flurry of runs and wickets saw the home side finish on a challenging 136-9 off 34 overs. Opener Ian Gregory (42), Paras Dogra (41), who added 67 for the third wicket, and captain Mark MacPherson-Lees with a quickfire 16 late on were the main contributors.

Unfortunately with the game finely poised the rains returned and the game was called off, with Kington not having a chance to commence their reply.

Bridgnorth remain 7th in the league but precariously placed just 9 points above the relegation zone with 6 games remaining.

1st XI v Bronze - Sunday 10th August (SSSCL)

Bridgnorth CC Sunday 1st XI v Bronze (Away)

Bridgnorth 1st XI (167-7) lost to Bronze (169-3) by 7 wickets

Batting: P. Dogra 72, M. MacPherson-Lees 32, C. Goodwin-Tindall 26.
Bowling: K. Osborne 2-22, G. Edwards 1-37.

Bridgnorth Sunday 1st XI went down by 7 wickets in a rain-reduced game away at Warwickshire side Bronze on Sunday.

On a wicket that had been affected by the previous day's heavy rain, Bridgnorth were asked to bat first. The wet track proved very tricky to play on with the top order collapsing to 52-5, opening batsman Conor Goodwin-Tindall battling hard with a gritty 26. As the track dried and conditions began to ease Paras Dogra (72 off 61 balls) and Mark MacPherson-Lees (32) were able to add a rapid 111 for the sixth-wicket, to give the visitors a total to defend, Bridgnorth finally ending on 167-7 off their allocated 36 overs.

In reply Bronze made full use of the easier conditions to chase down the target with 3.2 overs in hand. A young Bridgnorth attack worked hard but with little reward, although Kieran Osborne (2-22) showed his growing talent. Captain Glenn Edwards (1-37) took the other wicket to fall.

The match of the weekend saw Bridgnorth Sunday 2nd XI clinch a nail biting 2-run victory at home to Bronze.

Batting first, the home side posted a competitive 180-9 off their 40 overs. The runs were shared around the team with Greg Lewis (48), Jimmy Shaw (45), Rob Hughes (33) and Ed Lewis (23) all cashing in.

The Bronze reply got away in positive fashion, and they were heading to victory until Bridgnorth turned to legspinner Jimmy Shaw, who changed the game. He had already picked up four wickets to reduce the visitors to 175-9 before being trusted with the final over. The first three balls went for 3 runs, before Shaw bowled the last man to finish with figures of 5-33 and give Bridgnorth a superb win by 2 runs. Bridgnorth gloveman Rob Hughes completed a memorable match with the remarkable feat of taking five stumpings in the innings, 4 of them coming off Shaw.
