1st XI v Studley - Saturday 5th July (BPDCL Div 3)

Bridgnorth CC 1st XI v Studley (Away)

Bridgnorth 1st XI (182) had a winning draw with Studley (72-5)

Batting: G. Mumford 54, T. Whitney 32, M. MacPherson-Lees 26.
Bowling: P. Dogra 3-19, A. Leather 2-16.

Bridgnorth 1st XI were thwarted by the rain on Saturday as they had to settle for a winning draw against fellow strugglers Studley.

Batting first, Bridgnorth began struggling as a seemingly strong batting order fell to 90-6 with only Tom Whitney in the top order making any significant runs with a quick-fire 32.

However, Studley's wicket-taking only resulted in bringing wicketkeeper Gareth Mumford and club captain Mark MacPherson-Lees to the crease to combine in a pivotal partnership that saw Mumford finish with a well-timed, patient innings of 54. Lees finished with a gritty 26, leaving Bridgnorth 182 all out at the end of their innings.

With the runs on the board Bridgnorth set about trying to win the game. Tight bowling from club professional Paras Dogra (3-19) and Andy Leather (2-16), combined with smart fielding saw Studley slip to an ominous 72-5 before rain halted Bridgnorth's attack and ended the game just in time for Studley.

This game offered a lot of positives for Bridgnorth and with two big games in two weeks, they have shown they are capable of winning them both to give themselves a real chance of survival.

2nd XI v West Bromwich Dartmouth - Saturday 5th July (BPDCL Res Div 1)

Bridgnorth CC 2nd XI v West Bromwich Dartmouth (Home)

Bridgnorth 2nd XI (63) to to West Bromwich Dartmouth (64-1) by 9 wickets

Batting: A. Carson 33.
Bowling: K. Osborne 1-.

It was a weekend to forget for Bridgnorth's 2nd XI this weekend as they slipped to an embarrassing 9-wicket defeat at home against West Bromwich Dartmouth.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Bridgnorth got off to a positive start, and at 33-1 a decent base had been set. However, Bridgnorth - with what on paper was a good batting side - dramatically fell apart, being bowled out in 19 overs for 63 with only opening batsman Andrew Carson scoring any runs, making a tidy 33.

In reply, WBD made mincemeat of Bridgnorth's score, finishing the game on 64-1 in just 12 overs, with 14-year-old Kieran Osborne taking the sole wicket.

More application will need to be shown with the bat as Bridgnorth look to bounce back against Kenilworth Wardens at home next weekend.
