Bridgnorth Cricket Club 1st XI got 2008 off to a fine start away at Kidderminster with a comfortable 7 wicket victory.

In a 40 over friendly game Kidderminster batted first and totalled 187-7 in their innings. For Bridgnorth, all-rounders AJ Smith (3-24) and Sam Whitney (2-44) picked up some early season wickets.

In reply Bridgnorth openers AJ Smith (51 retired) and Ian Gregory (46) gave the platform for the chase, a task that was duly completed by Andy Unitt (26), Pete Thompson (22*) and Sam Whitney (29) giving the visitors a 7 wicket win with 13 balls to spare.

Bridgnorth Second XI's warm up game with Kidderminster at Cricket Meadow was abandoned mid-way through the visitor's innings due to a mixture of rain and bad light.

On winning the toss Bridgnorth elected to bat first and, with many players getting valuable time in the middle, posted 212-6 off 40 overs. Andy Carson (51), Matt Martin (48), Neil Johnson (24) and Kieron Osbourn (27) all looked in good touch.

Kidderminster's reply had reached 87-3 off 22.1 overs when both captains decided that in the descending gloom and near arctic temperatures that the game could not continue. Greg Lewis with 2-22 and Dan Taylor 1-19 took the wickets.
