Bridgnorth CC 3rd XI v Calverhall (Away)

Bridgnorth 3rd XI (162) beat Calverhall (104) by 58 runs.

Batting: C. Goodwin-Tindall 52, K. Osborne 40*, J. Jones 20.
Bowling: E. Lewis 7-23, C. Goodwin-Tindall 2-.

Bridgnorth 3rd XI registered their first win of the season despite facing inevitable relegation as they travelled to Calverhall in their last game of the season.

The home side won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Bridgnorth opening batsmen were dismissed quickly as the Calverhall bowlers found some surprise extra bounce on a very damp wicket. This brought Conor Goodwin-Tindall to the crease, who after starting quickly ended up having to battle on a bowler friendly wicket for 52. This laid a solid foundation for Josh Jones and youngster Kieron Osborne to boost the score up to 162 all out.

After skipping the tea break in an effort to get the game played before the light became unplayable Bridgnorth started perfectly with another promising youngster, Ed Lewis, taking 3 wickets in his first spell to put Bridgnorth well on the front foot. However, Calverhall began to rebuild until just before the drinks break when all-rounder Goodwin-Tindall made the breakthrough with his medium-pace. The re-introduction of Lewis saw him bag four more wickets to finish with 7-23, a senior career-best. Goodwin-Tindall claimed his second wicket to secure the win by an impressive 58 runs.

This performance shows that the 3rd XI have the potential in talented youngsters to prosper in Division Five next year, and get promoted back into the 4th division.

Bridgnorth XI v Worfield XI - Sunday 23rd September (Friendly)

Bridgnorth CC XI v Worfield XI (Away)

Bridgnorth XI (66-3) beat Worfield XI (65) by 7 wickets.

Batting: J. Jones 27, L. Brown 11*.
Bowling: A. Thomas 5-37, S. Whitney 3-7.

The curtain came down on another summer of cricket in the annual Sunday Friendly between Bridgnorth and Worfield, won this year by Bridgnorth.

Bridgnorth captain Matt Martin lost the toss and was asked to field by the Worfield skipper. Opening bowler Sam Whitney bowled a miserly spell of 3-7 off 7 overs to put Worfield firmly on the back foot. The much improved Alex Thomas pounced upon this, and with help from the safe hands of his team mates, especially Devon James, recorded career-best figures of 5-37 to polish off the Worfield batting line-up for a mere 65 in 16 overs. Ian Gregory proved to be just as good as his younger brother with a tidy display behind the stumps.

The Bridgnorth batsmen knocked off the runs in just 11 overs, with the explosive Josh Jones scoring 27 from 22 balls. He was well supported by Liam Brown who made a solid 11 not out to finish off the game. A clinical performance from this young Bridgnorth side wrapped up victory within just 2 hours.
