Bridgnorth CC 1st XI v Attock (Home)
Bridgnorth 1st XI (140) lost to Attock (141-3) by 7 wickets.
Batting: I. Gregory 32, M. Spence 22.
Bowling: T. Weaver 2-35.
Bridgnorth 1st team continued it's miserable 2007 season with a 7 wicket defeat at home to high flying Attock.
Put into bat Bridgnorth were immediately on the back foot with the loss of an early wicket. Ian Gregory, back in his favoured opening position, dug deep though and thwarted an incisive visiting attack for 29 overs with a resolute 32. South African Murray Spence was looking set before going for 22 as the hosts were floundering on 100-6. No wag came from the lower order this time as Bridgnorth were finally all out in the 50th over for a below par 140.
Bridgnorth had to come flying out the traps if they were going to get anything from this game and a couple of early breakthroughs gave the home side a glimmer of hope at 33-2. Tom Weaver (2-35) again showing his more senior colleagues the way as he continued his rise through the clubs ranks. Alas for Bridgnorth the next wicket to fall was when the score was on 120 and the game effectively gone and this was to prove correct as the visitors cantered to a 7 wicket victory with plenty of overs to spare.
After the first 11 games Bridgnorth First eleven sit second bottom in Birmingham League Division 2 although with a few victories escaping relegation is still most definitely possible.
Bridgnorth CC 2nd XI v Old Hill (Away)
Bridgnorth 2nd XI (62) lost to Old Hill (170) by 108 runs.
Batting: I. Baldwin 11.
Bowling: S. Caine 6-44, S. Pitt 4-48.
Bridgnorth 2nd XI travelled to Old Hill on Saturday and came away with a defeat against the team who lie third in the table.
After looking at the wicket and winning the toss visiting captain Steve Caine asked the home team to bat on a sticky wicket. The opening seamers Simon Pitt and Ian Baldwin kept the run rate down and they were then followed by tight spells from Neil Johnson and Steve Caine. The pick of the bowlers were the evergreen Steve Caine who continued his very productive season with 6-44 off 15 overs and Simon Pitt who returned figures of 4-48 off his 13 overs. Overall this meant the home side posted a competitive total of 170 for the visitors to chase.
As the wicket dried out the conditions favoured the bowlers more and it became increasingly challenging to bat on. Old Hill's opening bowling attack showed discipline and accuracy by putting the ball in the right areas as Bridgnorth crashed to just 62 all out in the 27th over. Ian Baldwin batting at nine top scored with 11.
The season has reached its halfway point and Bridgnorth Seconds lie in 8th position in Birmingham League Reserve Division 1 and they will be looking to end their current losing streak away at local rivals Shifnal on Saturday.
